Summary
Abandoned by his wife during the Great Depression, Henry Talcott, who has lost his farm and most of his livelihood as a cattle butcher, spends the rural Vermont summer in a tent at the edge of Black Pond with his two children, Thomas and Margaret. While Henry travels daily to look for work, Thomas takes on the role of Margaret's caretaker, while the family struggles to deal with hardship and loss
